Rice Breeding Project

The primary objective of the Rice Breeding Project is the development of superior varieties for the Louisiana rice industry.  The Breeding Project is developing improved genotypes of both long and medium grain types, which are both important in the state and region.  The project is also placing major emphasis on the development of specialty purpose types.  Dr. Steve Linscombe is the senior rice breeder.  Dr. Xueyan Sha and Dr. Brooks Blanche are also breeders in the project.

Long Grain and Herbicide-resistant Breeding Project

The Breeding Project, under the direction of senior rice breeder Dr. Steve Linscombe, has the responsibility of developing both conventional and herbicide resistant long grain varieties.

Conventional and Specialty Purpose Breeding Project

This project is focused on breeding for improved conventional and special purpose rice varieties for Louisiana and the southern United States. This project is headed by Dr. Xueyan Sha.

Medium Grain Rice Breeding Project

Dr. Brooks Blanche heads the medium-grain rice breeding project. The projects objective is to develop and release varieties with high-yield potential and superior agronomic characteristics.
