LSU AgCenter Entomologists Win Regional Awards

Two faculty members LSU AgCenter’s Department of Entomology and three students from the LSU department were among the top winners at a recent southern regional conference of the Entomological Society of America held in Charleston, S.C.

Winning two of the 13 total awards presented at the conference were Dr. Lane Foil, who received the Recognition Award for significant contributions to agriculture, and Dr. Mary Grodner, who was recognized with the Distinguished Achievement Award in Regulatory Entomology for contributions to insect detection techniques, pest control operations, regulatory activities and regulatory entomology training efforts.

Both faculty members were nominated to compete for these awards at the national level at the ESA meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah, next November.

The three students were recognized for their presentations during the meeting. Francis-Reay Jones received the President’s Award for the best oral presentation by a Ph.D. student, Melissa Willrich received the second-place award in that category and Rhett Gable received second place in the President’s Award competition for the best oral presentation by an M.S. student.
